Oregon's Requirement Is a Person at a Door, Not a Login

One Price, Every Tier

Agent service at Rocket Lawyer is priced at $125 for the year, the same figure at every membership level. No teaser, no tier-dependent variation, no different rate depending on which page you entered through. Pricing that behaves the same for everyone is less common in this category than it should be, and it deserves saying before anything critical.

The Question Is Whether You Open It

The $125 is attached to a legal platform: templates, e-signature, document storage, attorney access. That is a substantial product, and for an owner who works inside it monthly, the price is easy to justify.

The catch is not a hidden charge. It is scope. Agent service is one item in a large catalogue, and if the address is the only item you take off the shelf, the rest of the catalogue is still on your invoice.

Oregon Built the Requirement Around a Physical Handoff

Look at what the state is actually specifying and the platform question resolves itself.

Oregon's rule for the registered office turns on a single physical event: a process server walking up to an address and putting documents into the agent's hands. Personally served, in person, at a street address in Oregon. That is the transaction the whole requirement exists to make possible.

Once you see the rule that way, the exclusions make obvious sense. Three familiar business models are shut out of the registered office role here: mail forwarding operations, virtual offices, and the commercial mail receiving agencies that rent boxes by the month. The reason is structural rather than snobbish. Each of those models is designed to move paper somewhere else. None of them puts a person at a door. Oregon wrote the exclusions into the statute instead of leaving them to an agency's discretion, which is a stronger position than most states take on the same question.

The rest of the rule is about who may hold the role. An Oregon resident may take it on personally. Entities may too: LLCs, corporations, professional corporations and nonprofits, whether organized in Oregon or authorized to do business here. In each case the address where the agent conducts its own business has to be the address on your record, which is another way of insisting the agent be genuinely present rather than nominally listed.

None of that is a software problem. It is an occupancy problem, and it is what our $99 is aimed at.

What the $99 Covers
